Rooted in Verse: A Poetry Writing Workshop on Motherhood & Womanhood (2-Class Series)
Poetry holds the power to express the depths of experience, especially when it comes to the journeys of motherhood and womanhood. In this workshop, participants are invited to explore and celebrate these universal themes through reading and writing poetry. Often, women may feel the weight of their experiences, yet may not know how and where to begin expressing them. This workshop is designed to offer a nurturing and inspiring space for participants to find their poetic voice. Through guided exercises, we will tap into the unique facets of motherhood, womanhood, and personal growth, enabling each participant to craft poetry that is authentic to their journey. We will build confidence, explore various poetic forms, and foster a community where creativity and vulnerability can thrive.
What to Expect: Both sessions in this series will be led by a published poet and experienced creative writing instructor.
Week 1: Understanding Poetry & Writing Basics: Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of poetry, including rhythm, imagery, and word choice. Through guided readings, prompts, and short writing exercises we will explore free verse and structured forms while learning how to generate ideas and refine our writing. The goal of this session is to break down poetry into accessible elements, making it approachable for all.
Week 2: Developing Voice & Workshopping Poems: This session will focus on helping participants develop their poetic voice and refine their work. Attendees will have the opportunity to share their writing in a constructive and encouraging environment. We will discuss editing techniques, explore different poetic styles, and provide feedback to help each writer improve. By the end of the workshop, participants will have at least one polished poem and a clearer understanding of their personal writing style.
